Die Franzenshöhe ist der ideale Ort um Murmeltiere ganz aus der Nähe zu beobachten. Sie können bei uns auf der Terasse sitzen, einen Capucciono trinken und sich in ihrem Spiel verlieren.
Seit etwa Ende September befinden sich die #Murmeltiere im #NarionalparkStilfserjoch im Winterschlaf. In dieser Zeit nehmen sie weder Nahrung noch Flüssigkeit zu sich und reduzieren ihre Körperfunktionen auf ein Minimum. Interessanterweise wachen sie allerdings alle etwa 2 Wochen auf, fahren ihren Kreislauf und damit die Körpertemperatur für kurze Zeit hoch und wärmen ihren Winterbau wieder etwas auf, bevor sie weiterschlafen.

Il Franzenshöhe e un posto ideale per osservare le marmotte alpine. Troviamo la nostra marmotta alpina nei pascoli alpini e nei prati subalpini. Le #marmotte dipendono dalle loro tane per proteggersi dai nemici, visto che il terreno circostante offre poca protezione. Se c’è un pericolo scompaiono come un fulmine nella tana o in uno dei cunicoli di fuga lunghi da 1 fino a 2 m. Le marmotte utilizzano spesso tane diverse in estate e in inverno.
In tutto il mondo esistono oltre alla marmotta alpina 12 ulteriori specie di marmotte che preferiscono, ad eccezione di una specie, i paesaggi di steppa privi di alberi.
Le tane delle marmotte si estendono fino a 20 m e penetrano in profondità fino a 3 m.

The Franzenshöhe is the perfect place to observe #marmots. In the Alps marmots live in the alpine meadows and subalpine grassland. In this rather open terrain they are naturally dependent on their burrows to protect them from foes. The moment they sense danger they disappear like lightning into their burrows or into one of their 1 to 2m long flight tunnels. Often, different burrows are used for summer and winter.
Beside the Alpine marmot, there are 12 other species of marmot in the world, all of whom, with one exception, live in grassy, treeless steppe habitats.
Marmot burrows are up to 20m long and can be as much as 3m deep underground.
