The Stelvio Pass Road

Aktualisiert: 1. Feb 2019

The winding mountain road leading to the Stelvio Pass is the highest pass road in Italy (at 2,758 m) and is considered one of the most impressive roads in the world, with its 48 bends on the South Tyrolean side. The 49 km long "Queen of the Alpine roads" was completed between 1820 and 1825 under adverse circumstances in record time.

The road constructed during this bold prestige project has hardly changed since. The characteristic bends in front of the impressive panorama of the Stelvio National Park make the Stelvio Pass road one of the most popular routes for cyclists and motorcyclists. Every year in late summer, thousands of road cyclists participate in the Stelvio Bike Day. During this day, the entire road is closed to all motorized traffic.
